Being Brice: An Interview With Dr. Brice Smith

Internationally renowned and award-winning flutist Dr. Brice Smith, also known as Celestiaflute, has a deep passion for teaching and engaging communities through classical music. Dr. Smith balances their time traveling the United States as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and social justice activist. As a pedagogue, Dr. Smith has a rich and wide-ranging set of experiences in teaching masterclasses and program recruitment. Additionally, they served as Principal Flute of the Las Colinas Symphony, Adjunct Professor of Flute for Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, and Associate Artistic Director and teacher for Indiana University’s Flute Academy. Dr. Smith spends their free time curating a holistic social media presence, commissioning flute repertoire by underrepresented composers, practicing yoga, reading, writing, and spending time with their two cats, Piccolo and Patchouli. Dr. Smith’s writing can be found in the Flute View Magazine and personal blogs. Dr. Smith performs on a Gold Haynes and Mancke combination with a 14k amethyst stone crown.
