All About Thumbs: An Interview with Heather Mogielnicki

Heather Mogielnicki, BFA, BS, OT/L, CHT

Heather has been an Occupational Therapist (OT) for the past 25 years and is one of just over 7000 certified hand therapists in the entire world.  A certified Hand Therapist has extensive training in treating injuries in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, AND hand.  But prior to becoming a healthcare provider she was a professional flutist.  She knew at the age of 10 that she wanted to be a professional musician, however, the universe had other plans for her after a devastating injury stopped her from continuing in her musical career.  That is when she found OT.  During her time at UCONN Health Center she was a founding member of their musician’s clinic and has gone on to open her own office, Healing Hands Therapy Center where she continues to specialize in helping people with injuries in their upper bodies but focuses on working with musicians and using her gifts as an intuitive energy healer to help patients heal on all levels.  She has been published in numerous instrumental journals, developed, and taught a course for musicians and health at Western Connecticut State University and has lectured to countless college instrumental studios, youth orchestras and wind ensembles.  Heather has also created an online workshop for musicians as well as an intensive self-study program to help musicians lead an injury free life.  The statistics for musicians getting injured have not changed over the last 3 decades, and if she had known then what she knows now as a therapist and healer she could have prevented her injuries in the first place!  Her mission now is to help empower musicians to live a pain free life!
