Sitting Down with Erin Spencer

This month, I had the pleasure of sitting down with up and coming composer, arranger, and conductor, Erin Spencer. The first time I met Erin, we were both performing in the National Flute Association LGBTQIA+ flute choir. I saw this young woman stand up from the bass flute section and walk up to the podium to conduct a piece on the program that she had written! The piece, which we discuss in the interview, is one of those pieces that will live in my mind and heart for many years to come. The performance brought the audience and the performers to tears. I even bought the piece so we could program it for the Iowa City Flute Choir. The response to our performance was equally as well received. Erin is someone to keep and eye on because she is going places. Interviewing her and hearing her story was such a pleasure. I hope you enjoy getting to know Erin Spencer.
