As teachers, we should be regularly asking our students if they are experiencing pain or discomfort. Pain is your body’s request for change. In general, the flutists I work with tend to have pain in the upper back, neck, and arms. If you or your students are experiencing pain along the left side of the neck, I have made a video for some things to watch for as the flute approaches the flutist’s face.
