“Passerine Swale” for flute + cello by Beth Anderson

PROGRAM NOTE
A passerine is a member of the order Passeriformes, which includes more than half of all bird species. A swale is a meadow or a marsh where many wild plants grow together in profusion, and it is being used here as a musical collage form. This is a 4’30” lyrical piece. It has a folky feel (I’m originally from Kentucky) and there are a lot of “birdy” moments (I spend a bit of time birding with my husband). I played flute in a variety of marching and symphonic bands from age 9-21. I love the purity of the flute and the richness of the cello. They make wonderful partners.

Anyone who would like an MP3 of the piece is welcome to write me. This piece is available for premiere.

There is a CD available entitled The Praying Mantis And The Bluebird, MSR 1434, that includes 18 of my flute pieces; the music is also available to be streamed. Since that CD was issued, I have continued to compose music for flute(s).
