“karner blue” for flute and piano by Kim Sherman

“karner blue” celebrates the life of the Karner Blue Butterfly.  This beautiful creature lives an intense short life, unaware of its own endangered status.  This music reflects the life of the creature, its beauty in nature, the joy of flight, and the delicate balance between survival and extinction.  It is the first in a series of endangered species themed works for solo instruments and ensembles.

karner blue” was premiered in February 2, 2003 as part of the Pappoutsakis Flute Competition for which it was commissioned.
