“Flavours of Color” for solo flute by Pamela Sklar

Flavours of Color was written for a Vox Novus call for scores (flute) competition in 2022. As I began writing this, I aimed to capture various nuanced colors that I associate with tones. However, my mind began connecting the tones to flavors! Nonetheless, when I listened to it, I saw varying hues including blue, blue-purples, light purple, earth tones, and white. The shapes of the tones were very round and reminded me of ice cream scoops. (Full disclosure: I have synesthesia, but this was the first time that flavors were ever connected to tone color).
